I need help!! My boyfriend is very NOT fashionable and generally lives in jeans and t-shirts, sometimes with hawaiian shirts on top. That's fine with me, however there are problems. He has no butt and he's got a big hard belly, so he wears his pants under his belly. I finally convinced him to wear lose rise pants so he doesn't rip out the crotch as much (since it used to hang roughly at his knees) but they still fall down and show his butt, constantly. He does wear a belt, but it doesn't help much because the problem is the way he is shaped. He's also gained some weight lately which brought a new problem... you can see his belly from under his shirt. I'm seriously considering figuring out how to sew his pants to an undershirt. I don't mind him being a fashion reject, but I do mind him looking gross and somewhat creepy. Help!?!?!?
Also, I have been searching for plus size tank tops with shelf bras and am having NO luck. I have a pretty small chest (46B) so I don't need a bunch of support and have serious problems finding structured bras that fit right anyway. I like to wear tanks with overshirts or cardigans, but am tired of digging for a crappy spaghetti strap sports bra to wear with them. Any ideas?

Both of these questions have arisen after my EPIC SHOEVENTURE today. After getting an e-mail from DSW that advertised the White Mountain Stinger Boot as being in-stock again, but finding that it was still sold out online in any decent size, I drove all over town and FINALLY got the pair of boots I've been lusting over for ages. It took three hours, but I am SO HAPPY about this! I got them in brown, which is actually a lot lighter and richer than the picture shows. They are a definite warm chocolate brown. Which leads me to my questions 1) I want to be able to show these off, so I think I'd love to wear leggings under them. But what color leggings should I wear with brown boots? Is it 'okay' to wear black? Do any of you do black leggings with brown boots? Just curious how that looks! What other colors would you suggest? 2) I want skinny jeans to tuck into them, but I have NEVER worn skinny jeans. Before I invest in a pair, I'm considering making my own. I have a pair of jeans that I never wear since they're a bit short, but they'd be the right length for skinnies. Has anyone converted regular jeans to skinnies before? Is it doable, or am I out of my mind? I have sort of intermediate sewing skills. ETA - I told my friend I was going to make skinny jeans, and she said "But why? Skinny jeans are so unflattering!" If you have some pictures handy so I can prove her wrong, feel free to share :D Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

I think that these graphs are kinda interesting.

I wish I remember who pointed me to this first (probably wordweaverlynn or supergee, I'm guessing), but it's been kicking my ass (in a good way) for a few days, and I am finally getting around to posting it: An Adult Child Abuse Survivor's Guide to the Holidays. Quoting my comment there: About 20 years ago, I stopped going to family holidays because they made me too crazy. It took a few years for people to stop hounding me about this, but I would tell them (the ones I actually care about, that is), "Hey, look, I love you, but I don't need to see the whole family in the same room at the same time. [abuser] makes it so miserable; I'd rather see you when we can just sit and relax and catch up." And then I would do that -- make time to see the family members I love, and completely avoid the one I hate, and who made every holiday a festival of screams, slamming doors, tearful/afraid children, and passive-aggressive garbage.
(By the way, telling someone who gets it, as I'm doing now, is also therapeutic. Thanks for inviting this.) (The adult who abused me as a child is not the person I avoid; that person is no longer part of the family, so I did Thanksgiving with mom this year, and it was nice and peaceful.)

There is only one way not to become a hostage to fortune, and that is never to love.

This isn't spoilery. I watch Dreamland tonight. There was an interesting throwaway line: Cassie: Did you mean what you said back there; you're not human? Doctor: Weell, Human, Timlord; it's all just an accident of dimensional geography, when you get down to it. ( ok, this might be spoilery )The Human/Timelord throwaway line reminds me of the Farscape Human/Sebacean thing. Timelords are AU humans?

Someone has included my (personal) email address in spam for a new "Outraged TTC Patrons"™ group. Basically, there's a new site called TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) Riders. If I had to guess, some of the organizers of this new group are involved in some of the other activisms I'm connected to, but I don't have much information about who included my email address in their spam group (I tend to give different email addresses for different purposes; my standard "friends" address is the one being used, here)
Their peeve seems to be that the TTC is hiking fares. They make comments about the underfunding of the TTC ("No other major transit system in North America expects its riders to pay for over 70% of the system's cost.") These are arguments that I'm sympathetic to. I think that one of the legacies of Fucking Mike Fucking Harris Fucker Fuck is that the TTC has been uber-screwed.
I like the TTC. I get a Metropass every month, and I subway into work most days. I've always made living in TTC-accessible areas a priority. Which is not to say that they don't piss me off periodically. Some of their policies and behaviours (like their pricing strategy for the Metropass) are dumb dumb dumb.
I believe in the various improvements that the current city council have been making to the TTC. I like the dedicated streetcar lanes. I like the new kneeling buses and stop announcement systems. I believe that the TTC is an important service and should be well supported by the municipal and provincial governments. So I feel like I should fit right in with this new group of Outraged TTC Patrons™.
But I find myself immediately turned off by the group. Primarily because they come off seeming like exactly the kind of people who don't give a shit about how badly funded the TTC is until there's either a TTC strike or a rate increase. And I realize that's petty of me, but I have difficulty respecting people who act like they can't distinguish between something that's broken and something that's a new inconvenience.

I must repeat this over and over until it gets into my head:

I am always searching for great vintage/vintage inspired dresses and I have been told to visit Unique Vintage in Burbank.
Has anyone been there? What is the sizing like? Is it big-girl friendly? http://www.unique-vintage.com/

I have an update for everyone on this post. I received these jeans in the mail today. They're adorable. I've never really worn distressed jeans of any sort, so this is new for me! Took a bit of jumping and hopping to get into, but they fit nicely once I hauled them up over my butt. There is a little bit of gapping in the back, but it's something I've had to deal with for years since I have a shelf butt. They're also more straight leg really, than bootcut. But they look nice. I got them in a 24 petite. I wear a 5P blue in LB Rightfit, and normally between 22 and 26 in pants. And I'm around 5'3 and will still need to hem them. Petite's just aren't that petite anymore apparently! Overall, a nice pair of jeans. I love the detailing on the pockets and the subtle distressed look.

Hi folks, I'm wondering if I could get some reviews on this pair of pants from Alloy. Typically, I wear a 22/24 in jeans. Would a 25 fit me, or would I be better off looking somewhere else? Thanks in advance!

The Salvation Army is making sure it doesn't give any toys to foreign children, and General J.C. Christian suggests that the Bible be updated to deal with that (and of course Teh Gay).
